Richard O. Warther established Vanguard ID Systems in 1987, following his invention of the bar-coded key tag. His vision was to produce bar coded transaction cards specifically for the retail and restaurant sectors. Presently, the company stands as a trailblazer in manufacturing personalized card solutions such as gym tags, gift cards, health cards, library cards, and ID cards, among others.
With an expansive portfolio of over 25 patents, Vanguard ID Systems caters to a wide range of industries and applications, including healthcare, fitness, libraries, retail, and automotive.
Richard (Rick) Warther
Founder & CEO
Rick Warther has been in the Auto ID industry since 1979. Prior to founding Vanguard ID Systems in 1987, he worked for the Graphic Technology and Data Documents Systems divisions of Pitney Bowes in Kansas City. Rick also served as Vice President of Sales for Ampersand Data Graphics in Massachusetts. Rick holds a B.S. in Communications from Kent State University.
